Nails tells the story of the intertwined lives between Vietnamese nail technicians and their clients at LJ’s Nail Lounge founded by Leon Johnson Trang (“LJ”). The story centers on Amy an ambitious nail tech with dreams of owning a salon. Things are going well until Meredith a long time; very demanding client sets up appointments for her bridal party in preparation for her upcoming nuptials to Lance. Meredith’s wedding is planned to the very scheming detail.

It is during Meredith's  second visit to LJ’s when her “Wrong Color Karen” rears her ugly head with a melt down complete with racists rants.  The impact of this single incident sets the ball in motion, changing the lives of everyone in the salon forever.  

The backdrop of the story highlights the challenges of Vietnamese immigrants within the salon against demanding clientele in an American service business.  Among the talented technicians at LJ Nails Lounge is the hopeful entrepreneur, the brassy and sassy social media enthusiast, a not-so-secret aspiring drag queen, a free-wheeling psychic, the ever-loyal janitor, and an adopted daughter searching for her mother. Their stories as diverse as each of the characters, yet they get through life by looking deep within, remaining resilient against all odds.
